Red House Project

Dear family and friends, thanks for taking the time to look at this part of our website.

As you may know, we have been on the Big Island since early August (2016). We have joined Island Breeze Ministries – Makapala as full-time missionaries. The house we are currently living in is actually one of the homes on the Makapala property that we rent out to visiting groups (schools, retreat attendees, missionaries, community groups, etc.) So, it has been a temporary home for the last two months. We still haven’t unpacked all of our belongings, which were shipped from Oahu back in April.

We are currently in the process of fixing the staff house we will be moving into. A big part of what we want to do here at Makapala involves our home. Our home, like yours, serves as a refuge. For our family it also serves as a place where we homeschool our children. But we believe that is just a small part of what God has brought us here for. We envision our home to be a place where friends and family can come, rest, and recharge. (Yes, that means you!) We envision it to be a place where we can come together as family, as a community, to worship together, to pray together, to eat, live, and laugh together. That is just a few of the many things we want to see happen in Makapala, but we need your help.

Unfortunately, we are currently not in a financial position where we are able to cover the costs of the repairs up-front. We believe that God will provide the means for us to be able to move forward. The house is built on the edge of one of the slopes of the north side of the property and sits on the edge of the Great Lawn with a forest at its rear. Many years of winds and rain have caused water damage to the backside of the house and have rusted the jalousies open in place. With heavy rains, the carpets under the jalousies have become damaged with mold. The wall along that side of the house also has water damage.

Here are the needs we are praying for (we will update with answered prayers!):

  • Tenting: this will be the first line of defense against the creatures that invade the structures here. The cost to tent the house will be $4,500
  • Replace four windows (frame, glass and screen)ANSWERED
  • Replace carpet in the bedrooms, stairwell and living roomANSWERED
